Meet our Debate Board

The Medina Academy Middle School and Elementary Debate Club leadership teams have been selected for the 2025–2026 academic year. We congratulate all students for their enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to growing as leaders and debaters.

Middle School Leadership

  The Elementary Debate Club uses a Captain-based leadership model to help students build leadership skills through experience and mentorship.

All applications were evaluated by non-partisan, non-parent judges using a detailed rubric on motivation, teamwork, leadership, communication, and readiness, ensuring a fair and authentic selection process.

The Debate Club is an after-school, student-led program grounded in the MedinaCares philosophy, emphasizing that skills gained—critical thinking, communication, research, and leadership—should be used to serve others. One such project is debating Public Forum resolutions based on Washington state policy issues, such as “Correctional facilities should provide free basic hygiene products to incarcerated individuals,” reflecting advocacy by Essentials First. Students research both sides, construct affirmative and negative cases, and develop evidence-based arguments while practicing service-oriented learning.

The Debate Board leadership term runs from December 17, 2025 through June 19, 2026. Leaders will organize practices, set goals, mentor members, support skill-building, manage logistics, explore competitions, lead MedinaCares projects, recruit new members, and provide feedback—ensuring the team grows both competitively and personally.

Debate Coach Mariam Mohammed:
“Students are actively building strong debate and public speaking skills through structured practices focused on argument development, rebuttals, collaboration, and teamwork. Through Public Forum training and independent research, they are learning to think critically, evaluate sources, and communicate persuasively.”
