MedinaCares Clothing Drive: A Heartwarming Community Effort
When the Immigrant Women’s Community Center (IWCC) announced a clothing drive, our students stepped up without hesitation, and our community responded wholeheartedly.
In just a short window, Medina Academy families showed extraordinary generosity. Together, we collected 130 pounds of clothing and household items. The impact was so significant that IWCC’s Executive Director awarded MedinaCares a certificate of appreciation and highlighted our students’ efforts on Instagram.
We opened only 10 volunteer slots for students, who immediately got to work, spending nearly three hours sorting donations into categories such as men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing; warm coats; shoes; linens; and essential household items. Their dedication ensured that families in need could receive items promptly and without delay. The response exceeded all expectations. With donations continuing to pour in, our team returned over the weekend, sorting for an additional three days to ensure everything was organized and ready for immigrant and refugee families to pick up with dignity and ease.
“We hadn’t even officially launched the club—registrations hadn’t opened yet, and we were still offering the club free of cost in a pilot phase for students to try out. But when this opportunity came up, we knew we didn’t want to miss it. Even though it wasn’t student-led since the students hadn’t planned it, they were still able to participate, help with the sorting, and reflect on the experience afterward. We were absolutely blown away by the sheer volume of donations! Later, once club registrations were finalized, the students conducted a retrospective to discuss how the sorting process could have been improved and what other drives they could organize in the future.”

“Watching our students work with such purpose and empathy was inspiring. They transformed a spontaneous opportunity into truly meaningful service.”

This initiative not only gave our students a chance to serve but also highlighted the heart of the Medina Academy community—generous, united, and always ready to uplift those who need it most. Thank you to everyone who helped make this effort such a meaningful success.
