Caring for the Earth: Million Can Recycling
On December 4, our K–3rd grade students at the Medina Bellevue Campus enjoyed a special visit as part of the Million Can Recycling Project!
Jess Alexanderson came to speak to the students about why recycling is important and how taking care of the Earth is part of being responsible. She read her book to the students and shared exciting stories from her experiences as a diver, where she collected trash from the ocean. Jess helped students understand how litter can harm animals and damage Allah’s creation.
The students also learned that in Islam, Allah teaches us to care for the Earth. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ reminded us not to waste and to be kind to everything around us. When we recycle, we are showing amanah (responsibility) for the blessings Allah has given us.
Top 3 Fun Recycling Facts the students learned:
- Aluminum cans can be recycled again and again without losing quality.
- Recycling one can save enough energy to power a TV for about 3 hours!
- Recycling helps keep oceans clean and protects the animals Allah created.
Our students were excited to learn how recycling cans at home and school helps protect the Earth and supports our goal of collecting one million cans. We are proud of our young students for becoming Recycling Champions and caring for Allah’s creation!
