Building Skills, Leadership, and Stories: E-Newspaper club in making
The E-Newspaper Club is proud to share how much momentum has already begun to build. Over the past four weeks, students have been exploring story ideas, drafting student-centered content, and learning how a newspaper takes shape from concept to publication. Our mission is simple: a newspaper created by students, for students—capturing school life, student perspectives, and moments that matter to the Medina community, while also highlighting how we can serve others, an important aspect that sets Medina Academy clubs apart from those at other schools.
One of our biggest wins has been the students’ strong commitment—near-perfect attendance and members motivated enough to continue their writing and brainstorming at home. To support their enthusiasm, the club held a comic-strip workshop led by Omar Alam, a former Medina student, who guided students on visual storytelling, panel design, and character development. The session gave students the confidence and tools to express their ideas creatively, and along the way, natural leadership has begun to emerge, with students stepping up to guide discussions, offer feedback, and support one another.
Looking ahead, the Newspaper Club plans to bring in more voices through “visitor journalists”—students from outside the club who can contribute guest pieces, interviews, and short reports. The club will also interview members of the Medina community, including teachers, staff, PTO members, and other student groups, to highlight the voices and stories that make our school unique.
The club has also been reconnecting with alumni, strengthening school ties, and drawing on their experience. With the guidance of E-Newspaper Club peer coordinator Nuray Yossef (Medina Alumni), students continue to refine their skills in article writing, layout, and storytelling.
With the enthusiasm and commitment we’ve seen so far, our club is well on its way to publishing its first issue and laying the foundation for a vibrant, student-driven newspaper at Medina.
