MedinaCares Students Spread Warmth and Kindness Through Blanket Wrapping Event

On Friday, October 31, from 3:30–5:30 PM, MedinaCare students took part in a meaningful community service event focused on compassion, hygiene access, and giving back. The event, hosted at the Together Center, Redmond in collaboration with Essentials First, combined education, hands-on service, and heartfelt outreach.

Students began the afternoon by learning about Essentials First—a nonprofit founded by a 14-year-old Muslim girl passionate about eradicating hygiene poverty in the Pacific Northwest. The presentation highlighted the widespread hygiene inequality affecting many residents of Washington state and emphasized the importance of equitable access to hygiene products.

After the presentation, students wrote encouraging messages and tied them to warm blankets. In total, MedinaCare students wrapped 208 blankets (some were wrapped at a subsequent event at the Essentials First office in Bellevue). These blankets will be given to the unhoused community at the “Share Your Blessings” Thanksgiving Community Meal on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, where MedinaCares students will personally help distribute the blankets and staff the blanket station.

Students contributed to cleaning the space, wiping down surfaces, sweeping the floor, and flattening boxes for recycling—demonstrating responsibility, teamwork, and care for the community. By combining education, hands-on service, and personal outreach, the event allowed students to experience the power of empathy and see firsthand how thoughtful gestures can make a difference. It reinforced important values of service, compassion, and social awareness—lessons that extend far beyond the classroom.
